Construction managers are also sometimes called project managers or general contractors. These individuals have a lot of highly important responsibilities which require an extensive amount of education as well as experience. They are responsible for preparing and negotiating budgets, timetables, as well as cost estimates. One of the most important responsibilities of a construction manager is being able to work well with others. These managers must have experience working with different structures such as bridges, schools, power plants, and commercial structures. They must be able to not only be a team player but a leader as well. A commercial manager is responsible for overseeing the project and keeping the entire team on task.
They must have excellent communication skills and be able to discuss matters with architects, trade workers, and engineers. There are some occasions in which they may even have to communicate with attorneys depending on the type of project they are working on.
Another one of their major responsibilities is being able to work on a budget and make sure all of the projects are completed according to schedule. When the equipment, tools, and other materials are purchased they must ensure that they stay within budget. Often times construction managers obtain all of the necessary licenses and permits. Many of these managers are working several projects at one time which can be very strenuous.
Construction managers must also be aware of all of the technologies and methods regarding the construction management process. It is also important that they are able to interpret technical drawings as well as specific building contracts. They must be able to manage time well and stay within the appropriate frame of time so that they are able to begin the next phase on schedule.
Being a construction manager is definitely no cake walk. It takes a lot of skill and hard work to take on this many responsibilities. When it comes to all of their responsibilities these are just the tip of the iceberg. They are a crucial member of the team and a necessity in the construction process.
